Fiber identification comes first
A rug isn't just a smaller carpet. Wool, silk, Oriental, Persian, antique and synthetic rugs all behave differently under the same cleaning approach, and what's gentle on one fiber can be too aggressive for another. Before anything else happens, we identify what the rug is actually made of.
An antique or a hand-knotted Oriental or Persian rug carries value that a machine-made synthetic doesn't, and it's handled that way from the first step. Knowing the fiber tells us how the rug needs to be handled for the rest of the job, not just what to clean it with.

Testing for color bleed before we clean
Natural dyes, especially on older or hand-dyed rugs, can bleed when they meet the wrong cleaning approach. A color that's been stable on the rug for years can run the moment it's cleaned the wrong way, and that's not something you get a second chance at.
We test for bleed risk before cleaning starts, on a small and inconspicuous area of the rug, not the whole thing at once. It's a slower first step, but it's the only way to know how a rug's specific dyes will hold up before committing the rest of the rug to the same process.
Chapter 03
Wool asks for its own kind of care
Wool is a natural fiber with its own structure, and it doesn't respond the same way synthetic fibers do to aggressive scrubbing or harsh cleaning agents. It calls for gentler handling from the first pass to the last, matched to how the fiber itself is built.
Beyond the clean itself, wool rugs benefit from protection treatments that help the fiber resist future soiling, odor elimination where a rug has picked up smells over time, and the kind of maintenance that keeps a wool rug looking right between full cleanings rather than just after one.
